Spent a week exploring Kauai

North

Woke up early to hike the Kalaulau Trail which was very beautiful but also very muddy. The pair of converse I brought were sacrificed to protect my new pair of novablasts. We caught the early bus to the trailhead and saw very few people. Halfway through a pair of socks were also sacrificed to the mud. After the hike we went for a swim at the beach before taking the bus back to town.

We found a really good Indian food truck Cafe Turmeric.

Our favourite beach of the trip was Hideaway Beach, but we called it Jack’s beach. It was very slippery going down. The mud stains on my bathing suit and backpack have yet to come out.

Kalaulau

Great place for a bonfire and a few beers.

South

Spent an afternoon at Polihale State Beach. The sand was gorgeous and the beach seemed to go on forever. We brought some kalua pork and poke to have a little picnic while watching the waves crash. Went for another swim too. Polihale Beach

Wimea Canyon

Lots of great hiking around this area! Honestly I was a bit freaked out by the ridge along the cliff but Vivien was a champ.

The drive down the mountain to the ocean at the end of the day was spectacular. No better place to watch the clouds change colour and the sun set over the horizon.
